📨 Celebrate! Remote Tidbits
Your Thursday Connection to Empowerment & a bit of Fun!
Did you see my literal "Headline" mistake in the earlier emailed version of this inaugural "Celebrate! Remote Tidbits Newsletter" ? 🤦🏻♀️
This is an updated, corrected version, but am sure you'll probably find others mistakes I missed as well! (Also, no [know] idea how to fix what's happening at the bottom but will work on that for next Thursday!) 😆
Let me know what you see and no worries, I won't be sending another corrected version of this one - but if you let me know what you find, I'll congratulate your sharp, editorial eye in next week's edition! Cheers! Teri
🎈Is Your Brain Begging for Play? (Mine Clearly Was!)
Here’s a science‑backed truth with a touch of magic: your brain needs fun. It’s not just a luxury—it fuels creativity, reduces stress, and sparks new ideas. Sometimes, all it takes is a bottle of bubbles or a childhood memory to remind you what joy really feels like. This week, let’s make space for that wonder again.
A few weeks ago, I walked past a shelf of bubbles at Walmart. You know the kind—bright bottle, twist-off wand, childhood magic in liquid form. I paused. Reached out. And then I kept walking, thinking, “That’s silly. I don’t have anyone to blow bubbles with.”
But later, I wished I’d bought them. Because bubbles—yes, bubbles—are one of my “fun magnets.” They instantly bring back summer memories of Atlantic waves and sticky snow cone fingers. They make me smile. And according to science, that’s no small thing.
Big takeaway:
👉 Fun isn’t frivolous. It’s fuel.
Turns out, having fun does more than make you feel good. According to research shared in Forbes and NPR, joy-filled moments reduce stress, boost creative thinking, and help your brain reset. Fun improves well‑being, productivity, and connection—and yet most adults barely make time for it.
Especially when working remotely. It’s easy to let fun slide off the schedule. Without co-workers laughing near the break room or signaling the end of the day as they head out the door, you might find yourself stuck in your chair from after lunch until late in the evening. That’s not sustainable.
So let’s change that, starting today. Here's how:
💡 5 Ways to Reclaim Fun (Even During Work)
- Identify Your “Fun Magnets” – Think of 3–4 moments you’ve felt truly joyful. What were you doing? Who were you with? Those threads are your personal joy triggers.
- Schedule Fun Like It’s a Meeting – Put it on your calendar. Even 10 minutes helps. Mike Rucker calls this "creating more opportunities for spontaneity."
- Give Yourself Permission – Fun isn’t selfish—it’s brain fuel. Let go of the guilt and embrace the good it does.
- Make It Easy & Accessible – Have a coloring book, bubbles, music, whatever sparks joy nearby.
- Connect with People Who Spark Joy – Call, text, or facetime with someone who makes you laugh.
Fun is personal. Whether it’s solo, social, active or relaxing, what matters is that your fun brings you joy!
So—what are your “fun magnets”? This week, rediscover them. Schedule them. Let yourself play again.
You’re not too old. It’s not too late. And you are definitely worth it.
